Avon E-Newsletter - May 2023

One of the primary goals of the Town has been to increase transparency and education so that we are able to earn the trust of our residents. The Town is working on this by making substantial investments in improved communication and outreach. We have hired communications staff, launched a new website, created a notification system to better inform our residents and now live stream our most important meetings. We also just completed our first Citizens Academy. The Citizen’s Academy is a program developed to educate residents about how government works and the roles and responsibilities of the different Governmental Entities. The Town of Avon partnered with Washington Township this first year to bring this program to our residents, and we just graduated and recognized the class of 10. The Avon Police Department also does a Citizens Police Academy. This was started over a decade ago and is an 8-week program where you will have the opportunity to learn the realities of working as a uniformed police officer. Both of these programs are meant to help educate and encourage involvement in local government. If you want to learn more, please visit our website if you are interested a look at additional details and consider joining our next class.
