Avon Police Department
In July, Avon Officers made over 400 traffic stops in their efforts to reduce traffic accidents and other related traffic issues.
Officers Pete Michael and Officer Will Richards were both recognized at the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute luncheon for their efforts in the fight against impaired driving. Both were selected for having the most OWI/DWI arrests. Officers Michael and Officer Richards are also being recognized by Mother Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for their efforts over the past year.
Officer Sam Sims and K9 Ricsi both completed their training in July, which entailed a five-week patrol school and three weeks of narcotic detection school.
Officer Eric Cheek has completed all his field training and is now working a regular shift. Officer Cheek is also an advanced firearms instructor and will join our firearms training team.

TOWN OF AVON
RYAN CANNON -TOWN MANAGER-
EVERYONE WANTS TO LIVE IN A COMMUNITY THAT’S SAFE. HOW OFTEN DO YOU REFLECT ABOUT WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL SAFE AND WHO IS PROTECTING YOU? WHEN I THINK ABOUT THIS IT MAKES ME SO APPRECIATIVE OF THE AVON POLICE DEPARTMENT. THE AVON POLICE DEPARTMENT CONSISTS OF 39 MEN AND WOMEN AND 4 CANINE OFFICERS. THEY TAKE AN OATH TO SERVE AND PROTECT OUR COMMUNITY AND RISK THEIR OWN PERSONAL WELFARE AND SAFETY TO DO SO. THEY WORK 24 HOURS A DAY, 7 DAYS A WEEK, 365 DAYS A YEAR. THEY DON’T GET OFF HOLIDAYS TO SPEND WITH THEIR FAMILIES. THEY ARE ALWAYS OUT THERE HELPING TO MAKE US FEEL SAFE. LAST MONTH, THE COMMUNITY HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TURN OUT AND CELEBRATE WITH THE AVON POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR NATIONAL NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME. MORE THAN 5,000 PEOPLE SHOWED UP TO CELEBRATE WITH THE AVON POLICE. IT WAS AN INCREDIBLE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET POLICE OFFICERS, TALK TO THEM ABOUT WHAT THEY DO, AND LEARN HOW THEY DO THEIR JOBS. IT WAS ALSO REALLY FUN, AND WE HAD GREAT FOOD. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO TURNED OUT, AND IF YOU MISSED IT, WE HOPE YOU CAN JOIN US NEXT YEAR. THANK YOU TO THE AVON POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR ALL THEIR HARD WORK PREPARING FOR THE EVENT. WHEN YOU ARE OUT AND ABOUT THIS WEEKEND RUNNING ERRANDS, PLAYING SPORTS, GROCERY SHOPPING, MOWING YOUR YARD OR DOING WHATEVER YOU ENJOY DOING, TAKE A MINUTE AND THINK ABOUT HOW THE AVON POLICE ARE KEEPING YOU SAFE. IF YOU SEE AN OFFICER, TELL THEM THANK YOU FOR KEEPING YOU AND YOUR FAMILY SAFE.
