SHOP WITH A COP
Officers participated in Shop with a Cop on Sunday, December 10th, alongside other Police Officers and Sheriff's Deputies from Hendricks County FOP Lodge 132. This would not have been possible without all the generous donations by all of you. We thank you.

NEW K9 TEAM MEMBER
Our K9 team has identified a new K9 to replace the late Indo. Her name is Seli, and we are hoping to receive her within the next month. Seli is coming from Germany, and we cannot wait to meet her. Seli is a narcotic detection K9 and will probably receive training in search and rescue operations in the future.
POLICE UPDATE
Avon PD took in over 220 pounds of unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications this quarter and delivered that to COVANTA for disposal. We thank everyone who participates in this program for discarding unwanted medication properly. Every little bit helps prevent our water and land from being contaminated.
AVON YOUTH CIVIC ENGAGEMENT
Avon PD attended the Avon Youth Civic Engagement Council at Avon High School this week and met with some very bright and talented Avon HS students who are focusing on developing themselves as servant leaders. Avon Police plans on continuing our collaborations with this group and identifying some community initiatives that we can work on together in the near future.

JANUARY 2024
PARKS & REC 2023 SUMMARY
Shelby Pride, Parks Director
2023 January & February
In January our family-friendly glow bingo event hosted at the Avon Parkside Church sold out! We celebrated love in February with our sold out “For the Love of Animals” shows with Hedgehog Hannah. March & April March brought spring and preparations for summer events. Our maintenance staff began preparing lawn equipment to begin manicuring our parks. Our annual tree sale was in April as well as our Arbor Day Celebration and educational tree planting at our local Goddard School. May I n May, our Town Council and the Avon Junior Athletic Association Board signed a Memorandum of Understanding to partner with the Parks Department to bring them under their umbrella.
JUNE The Farmers Market hosted at HRH in Avon began in June, with each vendor space full! Avon Parks also paved the walking paths from Parkside Church and Avon United Methodist Church into Town Hall Park, making the whole park fully accessible from any direction and from neighboring parking lots.

PARKS & REC 2023 SUMMARY Shelby Pride, Parks Director
JULY & AUGUST
OCTOBER
Our annual Night at the Park was a *booming* success on the eve of July Fourth. Thousands of people filled Town Hall Park for the celebration and to watch our 15-minute firework show. “Dirt Works” was hosted in partnership with All Terrain Snow and Landscape Management and Schied Excavating in August.
We started October with our Harvest Moon Festival and hayrides through the park. It was a beautiful fall day! The final Asset Donation Agreement with AJAA was signed by all parties and we welcomed the sports staff with open arms!
NOVEMBER & DECEMBER
Autumn was in full swing by November and our maintenance team winterized the equipment and stored it. We held A Veteran’s Day Celebration and uniquely honored our Vets with Hendricks County’s first-ever drone show. We rounded out the year with our annual Christmas Tree Lighting. This event was especially significant this year as we welcomed our new 34’ Christmas Tree as a beacon of the season for our community.

Parks crew members Lorenzo Aquilar and Brent Keesling attended a Tree Steward training workshop offered by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry held in Richmond, IN, on October 26-27, 2023. Subject matter included planting techniques, care and maintenance, identifying defects, diagnosing problems such as pests and disease, and pruning basics. The information gathered will assist us with caring for the trees in our parks and along trail systems. Also of note, the Parks Maintenance staff has initiated winter preparation. Tasks include checking snowplow operation for trucks and utility vehicles, placing salt bags and brine tanks in the maintenance building, and starting portable snowblowers to ensure proper startup. Furthermore, a meeting will be held prior to the first snowfall to discuss procedures, including a review of assigned plowing areas and stockpiling locations, salt and brine placement, and safety precautions.
