Our agency continues to strive to take an active role in all of our community activities and community outreach programs. This year will mark our 15th annual Avon Police Department Citizens Police Academy. Enrollment for this will begin very soon, and the class fills up very quickly, so please follow our social media and website for more information and dates of enrollment. This course is designed for adults in our community, and meets one night a week for 8 weeks. This course offers an in-depth look into what it is like being an Avon Police Officer. Each of the 8-week blocks cover a different topic related to police work, and offers a hands-on approach to learning what a real police officer does day to day. The course finishes up with a police ride-along that helps put everything into perspective. Finally, the class meets one last time for graduation, to share stories, and view the class video documenting the class from beginning to end. If you are younger, we offer an Avon Police Cadet Program for those at least 14 years of age. This group meets monthly to learn about policing, and take part in police training applicable to preparation for a career in law enforcement.
